Read along for kids

Read along with Hoot: listen, read aloud, and grow

A friendly voice reads the story while each word lights up. Then your child reads it back, and Hoot the owl checks each word, helps when they are stuck and shows a short reading report.

Read along works on every book in Hridaa, including the ones your child writes. Choose a voice (Hoot the wise owl, a kind Narrator, Grandmother or Grandfather) with an accent that follows your country, such as Indian English. Pause and carry on from exactly where you stopped.

In Speak mode, your child reads aloud. Words turn green when read well and amber when Hoot helped. After the page, a friendly report shows words read right, reading speed against the goal for their age, and tricky words to practise. Tap any word to see its meaning and hear it again.

Questions parents ask

Speech is recognised on the device where the browser supports it, otherwise only if you switch on Voice in Parent Mode. We do not keep recordings.

It is a friendly reading guide that checks whether each word was read, not a speech test. It helps children practise and see progress.

Hoot, Narrator, Grandmother and Grandfather, with the accent following your country, such as Indian, British or American English.
